Double Yellow Mayor
Photographer Troutmask writes: "This is Birmingham mayors car. Parked on double yellow lines, right under a no parking sign, opposite some roadwork's outside "Hugo Boss" in the Mailbox. The Mailbox has a really big car park, but obviously our mayor is much to important to use it."
Of course it might not be the Mayor's car and a search for "LOM 1" doesn't bring up anything. So I've emailed the Mayor's office to check. Will keep you posted.
Update 8th Feb:
I got a reply from Cathy Dukes, Civic Affairs Manager
This is the LMs car although the chauffeur was driving the Lady Mayoress on this occasion. As I understand it this is the space that VIP visitors to the BBC are advised to park in and it is used throughout the day and night as a pick up and drop off point for visitors to the BBC. Cars must not be left unattended as they may be moved on in the case of an emergency. If you listen to Jimmy Franks at the BBC after 10pm this evening I understand he will be explaining the situation.
Needless to say, despite the advice above, I have instructed the
chauffeurs in future not to park up in this position.

It has the city council emblum on the side and a uniformed driver. Unless they are issuing these to social workers and housing officers now, I think it's pretty certain whose car it is. (actually as a council tax payer, I guess it's mine!)
tsk, tsk. this has local medai shitstorm all over it. troutmask make sure you've got photo copyright!

LOM-1 - Lord Mayor one?
Birmingham used to have a Lord Mayor, I believe, but in those days I remember someone telling me that the registration was simply A-1.
Another useless piece of trivia: Birmingham was given most of the "Ox"s when registration numbers were introduced. OM would have been one of them.
Well done Pete in getting a response.
I wonder why she can't walk? Who is she anyhow and why am I paying for her to be ferried about in this car?
I understood one of the reasons that the Beeb moved to the yuppie carbuncle that is the Mailbox was to be more central, surely nobody unless they are wheelchair bound would need a car from the council offices to the Mailbox..or was she actually picked up at home?
i doubt anything that's worthwhile could of been done on TV/radio in ten mins. anyway, there would actually be less far to walk if they parked in the car park underneath (which you don't even need to pay for if you're in/out inside 15 mins).
they've done nothing wrong, but feel the need to make excuses...
