"Have never visited this blog before, (currently living in Belfast), but am going to be in Birmingham for 2 days starting from tomorrow - if there's ONE thing to do while I'm there what would you recommend?"
I'm always terrible at this sort of thing. What would you say?

Crikey!
If you had a couple of hours to spare I'd say give us a talk about some of your earlier work! (Like the stuff from HAER that made it into Industrial Eye.)
Based on those photos I'd say you might have a look at regional engineering sites - not necessarily the remains at Millennium Point, but in the field. An easy tour of 19th (and even some 18th) century stuff can be found along the Mainline canal between Ickneild Port and Chance Bros next to Spon Lane.
There's much more if you are willing to poke around the region, but it's scattered.
The 20th Century is also a possibility - but I'd need to know more of your inclinations before giving an answer. Structures, landscapes, what?
I would make time to show you around a bit if that helps. Likewise, Vanley Burke has been known to give a tour - when he can make time. But it's a bit short notice.
It looks like I have confused Jett Loe the podcaster/producer with Jet Lowe the industrial/historical photographer, so I should modify my previous comments... unless you have a strong interest in old bridges, factories and the like.
How odd. I had originally posted Jet Lowe but on realising I'd got it wrong I'm sure I edited it. Must have neglected to re-post.
I had no idea either of them were famous!
for the decerning Industrial/Historical photographer?
I reckon it has to be the Museum of The Jewelry Quarter then, or a field trip round the old IMI works in Witton.
for the podcaster?
Pop to the BBC to see some real broadcasting stuff, then to the Custard factory to see if you can hang out with some new-media types.
it really does depend what people want out of a city - i'm happy with a the Nature Centre (now featuring Lemurs!).
Don't go to the Thinktank tho', apart from the Planetarium which is smart, it just makes me mad to see all the stuff that was in the real museum for free.
Wow - I had no idea about 'Jet Lowe' ! who's also a photographer!
Thanks for the recommendations guys - I'm over here directing a comedy show and am actually in the Jewelery Quarter right now - will pop over to the museum during lunch! :)
thanks again!
You should hit the web and look at Pogus Caesar's OOM Gallery archives. Tons of photographs many relevant to Birmingham including classic Handsworth riots images, rebuilding the Bullring and much more...worth a look.
