I love the phrasing in this Birmingham Post article (emphasis mine):
New Street revamp set for go-ahead

Jun 27 2007

By Paul Dale, Public Affairs Editor

The first tranche of cash for the £550 million redevelopment of New Street Station is likely to get Government approval by the middle of next month.

The man responsible for overseeing one of Birmingham's largest and most important regeneration schemes for decades said last night he expects Network Rail to announce a £122 million package on July 18.
But despite it not actually containing any news as such it does give a nice summary of where things are at regarding the redevelopment and where the money is due to come from.

It'd be nice if they'd release a handy 3D fly-through of the concept though. I'm having trouble visualizing how it's going to slot into the city.

You'll have to forgive my cynicism, but I'll belive it when I see it!

Oh, I'm sure it'll happen. Birmingham has a pretty good track record for huge building projects at the moment. Whether it'll actually be any good is another matter...

I'll try and avoid the old party politics, but there hasn't been too much movement in building any new tram lines recently - for example!

There have been some magnificent projects completed in Brum, but how many are "public" works?
