Cafe Soya is a Vietnamese restaurant in town that comes recommended by both Andy Pryke and Stef Lewandowski both of whom are cultured gentlemen of taste.
A biased and prejudiced guide to what's on in Birmingham.

I would recommend it too, very nice place. I'm not a cultured gentleman of taste though. Does that matter?
Oh and one thing I should say is beware the karaoke.
I've seen the photo of your shoes and can probably draw some tenuous conclusions to the positive. Or something.
It would appear I'm the last to hear of this place...
Well I can't believe you haven't been there. It's possibly the best place to get a good inexpensive, filling meal in the city centre without pretentions and in a friendly environment.
And (oops!) they deliver for free within a three mile radius... that includes Moseley, King's Heath.
Did I mention they do good vegetarian and it's healthy too?
I'm sure you're thinking "Show me the soylent green"...
try not to go when its not busy though, its a little uncomfortable to sit there in the open glass and the staff if they have nothing else to do will walk behind you and ask if everything is ok, like every five seconds. With both passers by and the staff staring at you its like having a meal in a fish bowl with jailers pacing around.
There was a Chinese resturant round the corner, it think it was actually called "chinese eating place", it was a red building, that was really cool, cheap(ish) and good food. but now its being turned into a buffet so will probably so suck hard they will hear the slurping on the moon.
It is also a gourmet society card restaurant so you can get a BOGOF deal if you are a card holder (I am - it is worth it for the Barton Arms and Kinnaree alone)
You got me intrigued with this Gormet Society thing.
Their website is down right now:
http://thegourmetsociety.co.uk/
but digging through the Google cache it says they're about £50 a year. That's not bad at all for a bunch of 2for1s.
Hmm...
Myself and Ben Silent Words are also both big fans of this place. So add +2.
Café Soya is the only reliably fresh, well-prepared, inexpensive, unpretentious (and did I say reliable?) place in town (that I know of) that also caters to my vegetarian friends.
If you go into the older version and look at the Polaroids under the glass at the till, you'll see people you recognise/know.
